Where to find a dentist in P.E.I.

A directory of dentists in P.E.I. is available from the website of the Dental Association of Prince Edward Island

Public Dental Programs for Children

Prince Edward Island has a Children's Dental Care Program that covers eligible children aged 3-17 inclusive. Information on the program can be found at http://www.gov.pe.ca/sss/index.php3?number=1025802&lang=E.

Other public programs for children include preventive dental service, a limited orthodontic clinic, a cleft-palate program and an early childhood dental initiative program.

Public Dental Programs for Seniors

There is a Long-Term Care Facilities Program which provides dental screenings and preventive services for residents of provincial and private long term care facilities.

Also Prince Edward Island has developed a Seniors' Oral Health Strategy with the goal of improving the oral health and access to dental care for seniors.

Welfare Assistance Dental Benefits

Some dental benefits are available for recipients of financial assistance. Services provided are mostly emergency dental services and some prosthetic (denture) services. For information on available services, clients of financial services should consult their assigned social worker.

Dental Services for low-income adults

Dental Public Health in P.E.I. is conducting a pilot clinic for low-income adults, called the Community Dental Services Program

Dental Services for immigrants and refugees

During the settlement period, the refugee or immigrant might be eligible for the Interim Health Benefit Program.  There is an application process for this program, and if eligible the individual is issued an IHBP card that verifies the coverage.  The eligibility period is generally until the person has acquired provincial or territorial status, usually 3 months after applying.  Details of the services covered and the process are available from http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/
guides/5568EB.asp

It is possible to apply for an extension to the IHBP (application form for extension available from http://www.cic.gc.ca/English/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5564E.PDF )

After the initial settlement period, the families might qualify for the other provincial programs or clinics listed on this page.
